We work closely when behaviour practitioner, and ensure that we are always taking the least restrictive intervention as possible.

What are Challenging Behaviours?

Challenging behaviours, also known as behaviours of concern are very different from one individual to another. The main categories of behaviours of concerns can include

  • Disruptive Behaviours

  • Aggression

  • Self-Harm

  • Sexualised Behaviours

  • Bullying

  • Withdrawal or Isolation

When these behaviours become evident, this is when we can refer and start to discuss the introduction of a specialist - Behaviour Practitioner. Depending on many factors, including severity, type of behaviour and more, the behaviour practitioner can decided with the family and participant whether the introduction of a positive behaviour support plan or a behaviour support plan may be necessary.

So what is a behaviour support plan (BSP)?

A BSP provides an outline participant specific strategies and interventions to manage challenging behaviours. This plan is is developed by the caregiver and professional - councillors, psychologist etc. The aim of this plan is to help the participant to develop new skills that are more adaptive and functional while reducing the behaviours of concern.
