Can I Change NDIS Providers? Your Rights and What to Expect

ree

Choosing the right NDIS provider is an important decision for participants and their families. Sometimes, circumstances change or you may feel your current provider isn’t the best fit anymore. At Feels Like Home Support Services, we believe everyone deserves care that truly meets their needs—so let’s unpack your rights when it comes to changing providers, and what you can expect along the way.

Can I Change NDIS Providers?

Absolutely! As an NDIS participant, you have the right to choose who delivers your supports and services. If you feel that another provider would better suit your needs, you are completely within your rights to make a change. Reasons for switching might include:

  • Wanting a better match with your support workers

  • Needing different services or more flexible support

  • Looking for improved communication or reliability

  • Wanting a provider with more expertise in your specific needs

Whatever your reason, your choice is protected under the NDIS.

Can Providers Stop Me From Changing?

No, your provider cannot stop you from changing to another service. NDIS rules are clear: participants have control over their supports and are free to change providers at any time. However, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Notice Periods: Check your service agreement for any notice period required before ending supports. Most providers ask for 2–4 weeks’ notice, but this should always be outlined clearly in your agreement.

  • Outstanding Charges: Make sure any outstanding invoices or payments are settled before switching.

  • Transition Support: Quality providers will support you through the transition, help with handover, and ensure continuity of care.

If you feel pressured or blocked from leaving, you can contact the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission for support.

How to Change Providers

  1. Review Your Service Agreement: Look for the required notice period and any exit conditions.

  2. Notify Your Provider: Let them know in writing that you’d like to end your services and when you would like this to happen.

  3. Settle Any Outstanding Matters: Pay any final invoices and return any equipment if needed.

  4. Find a New Provider: Look for a provider who aligns with your needs and values. Ask questions, check their experience, and see if they offer the flexibility and support you want.
